NEW YEAR'S FESTIVITIES IN SAN ANTONIO DURING THE YEAR OF THE RABBIT
The Lunar New Year falls on January 22, 2023, and it's the Year of the Rabbit this time around. Lunar New Year has its roots in the belief that people are born with traits and characteristics similar to the animal associated with their year of birth? Rabbits are gentle, quiet, patient, and responsible, so this year will be the Year of the Rabbit.
During the Lunar New Year in San Antonio, here are some ways to celebrate!

If you're in San Antonio for Lunar New Year, or even if you're not, the San Antonio Museum of Art will host a virtual event. ReCollections: Art Conversations to Stimulate the Mind Year of the Rabbit will explore the rabbit's role in Asian traditions. There is no cost associated with this event, but registration is required prior to attending. The event registration closes 2 hours before the start of the event, so sign up soon!

There will be lots of fun at Rolling Oaks Mall all weekend long as we celebrate the Year of The Rabbit. During the Lunar New Year celebrations, Phuoc Hue Buddhist Temple invites all to join in the fun! As part of the event, attendees will witness the Dragon Dance and receive an offering intended to signify gratitude, longevity, and prosperity from the temple. Dinner will be followed by fireworks and great company!

Make the Lunar New Year lucky with a performance. At Tim's Oriental & Seafood Market there will be a Chinese New Year Lion Dance. This event is in conjunction with the Chinese Lion Dance Association of San Antonio, which will perform an authentic Chinese New Year Lion Dance on site. Getting a good view requires arriving early!

COVID-19 caused a two-year hiatus for the Asian Festival, but this spring it returns! Taking place on the Downtown Campus of the University of Texas in San Antonio, we are excited to bring back favorite traditions this year, including hands-on activities, to educate visitors about Asian cultures and how they have influenced our vibrant, diverse Texan cultures.
In addition to hands-on opportunities, performances and traditional demonstrations and arts & culture vendors will also be in attendance. Although this festival was previously held each February, it is returning this May to coincide with Asian American Heritage Month.
