SAN ANTONIO CELEBRATES JUNETEENTH THIS JUNE
Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States each year on June 19. A Union soldier announced the freedom of enslaved African Americans on this date in 1865.
Time-honored traditions honor the rich Black heritage of San Antonio.
There are several options if you're planning to celebrate Juneteenth in San Antonio:
THE CARVER COMMUNITY CULTURAL CENTER

There is a cultural hub dedicated to African American arts and culture in San Antonio called the Carver Community Cultural Center. The organization offers a variety of educational programs throughout the year, as well as community outreach activities.
Enjoy a show at the Carver Community Cultural Center while you're in town. There are usually ten to twelve main stage performances at the Jo Long Theatre and four more intimate events at the Little Carver Civic Center at the Center.
The San Antonio African American Community Archive Museum
Located at 218 South Presa, 20th floor
San Antonio, TX 78205
This museum preserves and presents the history of African Americans in San Antonio. Museum exhibits include a digital archive of historical accounts and interactive audiovisual displays.
A 19-person person limit applies to the museum's intimate tours on the second Sunday and fourth Saturday of every month. Additionally, SAAACAM offers tours for private groups.

A parade and festival are held every year in San Antonio to commemorate Juneteenth. Juneteenth Commission began in 1996 and has become a national recognition platform for African Americans.
Typically, the festival is held in Comanche Park No. 2, with vendors, live music, and other activities. A Juneteenth Golf Tournament, local concerts, and more have been annual events at Juneteenth San Antonio!

The historic Eastside of San Antonio offers an immersive experience this Juneteenth. In this area, you can find venues, landmarks, and eateries that reflect San Antonio's vibrant black culture. Explore San Antonio's Eastside in our latest blog.
